The fitness and sports industry is a strongly growing branch of industry and is divided into fitness chains, individual studios and sports goods retailers. In 2015, the fitness industry generated a total turnover of 4.83 billion euros, the industry has approximately 9.46 million members. Training and studies include a Bachelor of Arts in Fitness Economics as well as an apprenticeship as a sports and fitness merchant.

In addition to the obvious activities in the field of sports and fitness, activities related to wellness and beauty also belong to this industry. Consulting, service and sale of products are among the possible activities here. This is characterised by direct customer contact with private individuals. This results in a necessary orientation towards the customers' leisure time, which sometimes entails unusual working hours.
